How to Play Sumplete Daily 5x5
If you enjoy playing Sumplete but need a challenge, then the Daily 5x5 is exactly what you need! Need a quick guide on learning what this level is and how to play it? We've got your back!
What makes Daily 5x5 different?
The Daily 5x5 is a Sumplete challenge level. Unlike the normal 5x5 puzzle grids you can play under the "Home" level, the Daily 5x5 has no changeable difficulty setting and is meant to be solved as fast as possible, as seen on the top left side of the grid.
How do you win?
To solve the Daily 5x5, you need to ensure all the numbers on each row or column add up to their sum clue. The sum clues are the greyed out numbers on the right and bottom sides of the 5x5 grid. Once a row or column adds up to a sum clue, it will light up!
To know which numbers add to which, you need to mark each number cell with a corresponding status. Blank means it's "Unknown", a red cross means "Deleted" and a green circle means "Keep".
Every number cell starts out as unknown, clicking/tapping once puts a red cross, clicking/tapping twice puts a green circle and clicking/tapping thrice returns the cell to its original state.
Tips & tricks for Sumplete Daily 5x5
Let's use this sample Daily 5x5 puzzle as a reference to help you learn a few tricks! Keep in mind that these techniques aren't infallible; each Daily 5x5 puzzle is different, and you'll have to be flexible in using them to get the fastest time possible.
Pay attention to the sum clue
From a quick scan of the grid, you can learn how to identify which number cells already don't add up.
Look at the sum clue we have on the topmost row. It's an 8, which automatically means the other number cells aside from the 8 are no longer viable. We can safely mark that 8 with a green circle and start from there.
This technique also works on other rows and columns. If a number cell exceeds the value of the sum clue, you can immediately cross it out.
Start with the corners
Solving for the corners first is a good tactic. Once you determine the corner sums, the rest of the grid will easily fall into place.
This also works even if your first calculations for one or more corners were wrong, as adjusting the sums on the fly will guide your intuition on which number cells will work and which won't.
Click on the sum clue to auto-mark
This is a secret function that can help cut down your run time. Once you've crossed out number cells for your target row or column, you can just click that row or column's sum clue and it'll automatically mark the number cells you left blank. This is especially useful if you aim to solve the puzzle under a minute or for other bigger grids like 7x7s and 9x9s.
And here's another neat trick with the sum clue click: if the sum clue is 0, just click on it and it'll immediately mark every number cell in that row or column as zero!
Solve for the smaller sum clues
Bigger sum clues need more number cells. Ideally, it's best to hit the smaller sum clues first, as it not only clears out the excess number cells but also makes it easier for you to solve for the bigger sum clues.
Don't forget to share your results
Showing your results to others not only ups the challenge but also allows you to monitor your growth as a Sumplete player. Over time, you'll see that your times are getting shorter and shorter, and you will learn to create your own techniques as you get better and better!
And the most important tip of all: don't forget to have fun!
